HILL WALKING IN SPAIN

Welcome to my guide to hill walking in Spain. It covers:

* Southern Spain -

* Sierra Almijara and Tejeda (inland from Nerja);

* Natural parks of Seville, Cordoba and Antequera;

* Cazorla.

* Central Spain - Sierra Guadarrama, to the north of Madrid.

* Northern Spain -

* Picos de Europa;

* Somiedo;

* Ordesa area of the Pyrenees (and over the border into France)

This guide is for hill walkers and scramblers, but not for rock climbers.

You can get some of this information in guidebooks, but some of it you can't. And my information is kept up to date. You can select the parts you require, and print out just the parts you need. I can provide tailor-made information for you.

My walk descriptions include detailed instructions, gradings, sketch maps and in most cases GPS tracks.

The walks are graded according to difficulty. Some but by no means all involve some exposure, requiring a reasonable head for heights. When this applies, it is made clear in the walk description.

HOW DOES THIS WEBSITE WORK?

Clicking through the site you will find detailed information about each area. There are links to two or three great walks for each area, which you can have free of charge.

On request I can send you by email a full portfolio of walks for each area, with sketch maps, grid references and, for most of them, GPS tracks. I make a small charge for each area of £7.50 as a contribution to my costs.

The sketch maps are in my own hand. They contain only what you need to know. Following my walk descriptions along with my sketch maps you should find your way. Spanish mapping is poor and does not compare to British Ordnance Survey maps. You will find that my sketch maps provide just what you need, although for each area I also give references to the best published maps available.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT

On request and free of charge I will provide information about good hotel, hostal and refuge accommodation in all the areas covered by this website, along with information about public transport and car hire.

DISCLAIMER - The walk descriptions and maps are as accurate as I can make them, but things change and I can not guarantee that everything is always bang up to date or 100% correct. You must take all the normal precautions, wearing adequate clothing, carrying waterproofs, mobile phone and so on, just as you would when hill walking in the UK. You also need protection from the sun. And let somebody know where you are going when you set out. All users of this information use it entirely at their own risk.
